Brief Itinerary :
  • Days 1-4: Safari in Tanzania

You’ll likely fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) near Arusha, Tanzania. Arusha is a bustling town that serves as a gateway to many of Tanzania’s national parks. Spend a night here to relax after your long flight and acclimatize to the time difference.
Many Zanzibar tours include safaris in Tanzania’s famous national parks. Here are a few of the most popular options, all within a few hours drive of Arusha:
Tarangire National Park: Known for its large elephant population and diverse landscapes, from savanna to swamps.
Serengeti National Park: The most famous national park in Tanzania, known for its annual wildebeest migration.
Ngorongoro Crater: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this collapsed volcano is home to a variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, and rhinos.
Lake Manyara National Park: A smaller park with a beautiful lake, home to a variety of birds, including flamingos, as well as elephants, hippos, and lions.
Your days on safari will be spent exploring the parks in open-air vehicles, spotting wildlife, and learning about the ecosystem from your experienced guide. Most tours include all meals and accommodation in comfortable lodges or tented camps within the parks.

  • Days 5-6: Travel Day and Stone Town

After your safari, you’ll likely be transferred to Arusha Airport for a short flight to Zanzibar Island.
Stone Town is the historic center of Zanzibar and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend a few days exploring the narrow streets, charming shops, and historical landmarks, such as the Old Fort and the Palace Museum.
In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at a rooftop restaurant with stunning views of the town and the harbor.

  • Days 7-13: Relaxation on Zanzibar’s Beaches

Zanzibar is known for its beautiful beaches, so spend the rest of your trip relaxing on the sand, swimming in the turquoise waters, and soaking up the sun.
There are many beaches to choose from, each with its own unique atmosphere. Nungwi Beach is a popular choice for those who want a lively atmosphere with plenty of restaurants and bars. Kendwa Beach is another good option for swimming and sunbathing, with a more relaxed vibe. For something more secluded, try Matemwe Beach or Paje Beach.
Zanzibar also offers a variety of water sports activities, such as snorkeling, diving, and kayaking. You can also take a day trip to one of the nearby islands, such as Prison Island or Chumbe Island.
This is just a suggestion, of course, and you can tailor the itinerary to your client’s interests and preferences. With 13 days, they have plenty of time to explore both the wildlife of Tanzania and the beaches of Zanzibar.

Here are some additional tips for your trip:
  • The best time to visit Tanzania for a safari is during the dry season, from June to October. Zanzibar can be visited year-round, but the rainy season is from March to May.
  • The currency in Tanzania is the Tanzanian shilling (TZS). The currency in Zanzibar is the Tanzanian shilling (TZS) although US Dollars (USD) are also widely accepted. Be sure to exchange your money for shillings before you arrive.
  • It is recommended to pack comfortable clothing in neutral colors for your safari, as well as a swimsuit, hat, and sunscreen. For Zanzibar, pack light, beachy clothing, as well as a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Tipping is expected in Tanzania and Zanzibar. A small tip (around $5 USD) for your guide and driver at the end of your safari is customary. You can also tip restaurant staff and porters at your hotels.
